Amb. Claire Pierangelo (Ret.)
Claire Pierangelo is a former career U.S. Ambassador with over four decades of international senior leadership experience. She most recently served as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar as well as U.S. Ambassador to the Union of the Comoros. Her diplomatic career spanned leadership assignments across Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and Africa, as well as leadership positions in Washington, D.C. She also served as the Acting Deputy Commandant of the National War College at the National Defense University, where she was the Senior State Department representative and an Assistant Professor of National Security Studies, specializing in Southeast Asia, and economic development. A graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz (B.A. History), she pursued her graduate studies at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) (M.A. International Studies), Industrial College of the Armed Forces (M.S. in National Resource Strategy) and the National War College (M.S. in National Security Studies).
Ambassador Pierangelo currently serves as an Advisory Board Member for the Stony Brook University Institute for the Conservation of Tropical Environments, Centre ValBio in Madagascar as well as a Board Member for the NGO Wildlife Madagascar, where she brings a lifetime of cross-cultural engagement and global policy experience to conservation efforts worldwide.
