The La Jolla Center for Pacific Strategy (“the Center,” “we,” “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through thelajollacenter.org, how we use it, and your choices.
Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- When you apply for Membership, submit a Fellowship/Internship/Staff application, or contact us, we collect the information you provide — name, email, phone, mailing address, professional/academic background, letters of recommendation, and similar application materials.
- When you donate through our Give page, our payment processor (Givebutter) collects payment and contact information necessary to process your gift. We do not directly handle or store your payment card information — that’s held by Givebutter and its payment processor.
Information collected automatically:
- We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this site — information like IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited. We do not currently use cookies.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process Membership and Opportunities applications
- Process donations and send donation receipts
- Contact donors and potential donors about giving opportunities
- Respond to inquiries submitted through our Contact page
- Maintain our public Membership Directory (name, tier, and member-since year only — see below)
- Communicate with Members, Fellows, and applicants about Center activities
What We Share Publicly
Our Membership Directory is a public page listing current Members by name, membership tier, and the year they joined. It does not include contact information, application materials, or any other personal details.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
- Givebutter (donation processing) — see Givebutter’s privacy policy
- Monday.com (Membership/Opportunities application and Contact form processing) — see Monday.com’s privacy policy
- Google Analytics (site usage analytics) — see Google’s privacy policy
Data Retention
Application materials — including CVs, letters of recommendation, and transcripts — may be retained beyond the initial review period, even if an application is not approved, so that Center staff can re-engage prospective Members in the future. These materials are accessible to authorized Center staff involved in membership review and cultivation.
Your Rights
California residents have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- The right to know what personal information we have collected about you
- The right to request deletion of your personal information
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — the Center does not sell or share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights

Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
